As competition in the domestic market intensifies, there is a company that is at the forefront of the export fever. Elpowertech (CEO Choi Seong-kyu, pictured) entered the Japanese market one step ahead of global companies such as Hitachi, Mitsubishi, and Siemens, and achieved great success by confidently making a bet with domestic technology. This company has a long history of exporting to Japan. Ten years ago, it focused on the Japanese transformer market, which is famous for its meticulousness, and entered it exclusively, building solid know-how. Highly evaluating the potential of the Japanese transformer market, Elpowertech established its own management strategy and maintained it steadily, and has been firmly establishing itself as a leading export company for several years. The overseas market where Elpowertech’s strength can be seen is, of course, ‘Japan.’ Elpowertech entered the Japanese market with its own strategy and sales know-how without relying on the help of large domestic companies or overseas agents, and has been steadily increasing its brand awareness over the past ten years. CEO Choi Seong-kyu explained, “It is important to consistently execute whatever you do for a long time,” and “The secret to Elpowertech’s growth as a Japanese export specialist is understanding and thoroughly adapting to Japan’s unique sales, verification, and A/S systems.” Elpowertech has been building networks with Japan’s three major power developers and sharing information strategically. Through this, it has been able to read Japan’s new and renewable energy development trends, enter the market together with local partners, and successfully settle into the market. It has already completed all preparations to enter the solar inverter transformer market. It is also planning to form a consortium with local companies to enter a larger market. Recently, Elpowertech has been expanding its export areas to Southeast Asia and the Middle East. To this end, it is using about 18% of its staff as research personnel and is working hard on thorough localization. Thanks to these efforts, it was able to develop a 69kV transmission transformer last year and pass the Manila Electricity Authority’s inspection test and deliver it. It also passed the Dubai Electricity Authority’s qualification screening and became eligible to participate in the bidding. CEO Choi emphasized, “Trying things one step ahead of others and working a little harder is Elpowertech’s strength and future survival strategy,” and “If we determine that there is high potential not only in the overseas market but also in the domestic market, we will boldly jump in and seize the leading position.” To prepare for this time, we are reorganizing our internal capabilities by increasing cranes and testing equipment. CEO Choi said, “This is a strategy to prepare for the moment when demand increases due to an improving economy.” He added, “We will readjust our business portfolio from the previous 30% domestic, 30% Japanese, and 40% third-party overseas markets to 30% civilian, 30% public, and 40% exports, and strive to become a company that fits the changing paradigm.” Reporter Lee Seok-hee xixi@electimes.com Written: December 29, 2015 (Tue) 16:54 Posted: January 6, 2016 (Wed) 10:44
