"Creating new food sources through diversification of business areas"
We need the ability to explore civilian and overseas markets in addition to KEPCO volume
Holding a workshop with the goal of coexistence, unity, and technology exchange in the second half
"We should no longer rely solely on KEPCO volume, but should develop the ability to explore civilian and overseas markets together."
Chairman Seong-kyu Choi (CEO of Elpowertech), who took charge of the Western Transformer Association last month, emphasized that efforts to diversify business areas are necessary for the association to continue to exist.
He said, "The association currently has a tendency to rely excessively on KEPCO volume," and "We will work together to expand the public sector to business areas other than KEPCO in the future, and to jointly respond in the private market through sales targeting large corporations."
Overseas business can also become a new food source for the Western Association. He emphasized, “It is very difficult for individual companies to develop overseas markets, but if they promote business together at the cooperative level, the possibility will be much higher,” and “If companies with previous experience in successfully promoting overseas businesses take the lead in promoting this, we can expect unexpected results.”
In fact, Elpowertech, which Chairman Choi is managing, generates 80% of its total sales in the Japanese market.
It is also known that some transformer companies belonging to the Western Union have experience in exporting overseas.
In this way, Chairman Choi believes that if they jointly seek to enter overseas markets based on existing achievements, they can also achieve results at the cooperative level.
However, the most urgent issue right now is the KEPCO bidding in June.
It is expected to unfold as a two-way battle with the Electric Power Cooperative, but there is also the possibility that an individual company may bid alone.
However, Chairman Choi expressed confidence, saying, “No matter what happens, we will be able to overcome any difficulties because we are partners who have endured hardships together for 40 years.” In order for this trust to continue to be solid, unity among member companies is important.
Therefore, Chairman Choi plans to hold a workshop in the second half of this year with the goal of coexistence, unity, and technology exchange.
“The biggest advantage of the Western Association is that it is easy to unify opinions among companies. Therefore, any work can be carried out efficiently.”
Chairman Choi Seong-gyu pledged, “We will continue to fully utilize these advantages and focus all our capabilities on becoming a business association that can maximize the profits of member companies.”
