This is the story of Elpowertech (CEO Choi Seong-kyu) located in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Even in 2012, when a recession was predicted for the transformer industry, Elpowertech is busy with its schedule.

During this Lunar New Year holiday, employees in the assembly and inspection departments must come to work to handle the contracted quantity with Japanese company Y.

This is to meet the order quantity of 15 special transformers with capacities of 300kVA to 7,500kVA. It is a large contract worth 700 million won. The sound of a motor testing a transformer fills the 2,500-square-foot factory.

Transformers fill one room of the factory, and employees are meticulously examining the products.

Inside the factory, employees are busy assembling cores and transformers.

The core is the core of the transformer and plays an important role in transmitting the current generated from the coil, so they are very careful.

Tools and small transformer parts scattered on the floor represent the busy people.

"There are employees who have to give up their holidays and come to work even though it is a holiday because there is a lot of work to be delivered. I feel grateful, but at the same time, I feel sorry."

Choi Seong-kyu, CEO of Elpowertech, said that the company has been able to grow steadily by 20-30% every year thanks to the dedicated employees.

Choi Seong-kyu said that he paid special allowances to comfort employees during Chuseok. He is considering similar compensation this year.

The background of Elpowertech's growth can be attributed to the dedicated work attitude of its employees, as well as market diversification and development of various items.

When most transformer companies depended on KEPCO, Elpowertech pioneered overseas markets.

As a result, it was able to conclude export contracts with various countries such as Japan, China, Taiwan, India, Colombia, and Qatar.

Last year, its exports amounted to 8 billion won, and this year, it has already completed contracts for the same amount as last year.

The products it produces are also diverse. Starting with pole transformers, it produces ground, distribution, power, leakage (constant current), dry-type transformers, and reactors. Although dry-type transformers are in the domestic market with low demand, it supplies about 80% of them.

Special transformers developed in-house account for 80% of Elpowertech's export sales. "The secret to developing a variety of products and diversifying risks is to pioneer a new market." This is CEO Choi Seong-kyu's explanation that targeting a market that others do not target was a hit.

The aftereffects of the worsening construction market have spread to the electric power industry, and the transformer market is in a continuous recession.

Even in the midst of this, there is Elpowertech that is bravely overcoming the difficult economic times.

Those who have forgotten the Lunar New Year, they must have forgotten the recession as well.
