Successful Reappointment… “Continuing to Challenge in Adapting to the Changing Times”

Choi Seong-kyu, Chairman of the Transformer Business Association (CEO of Elpowertech), has been successfully reappointed. Chairman Choi was recently unanimously elected as the 6th Chairman at the extraordinary general meeting of the association. With this, he has maintained the position of head of the Transformer Association since the 3rd term. Furthermore, if you include the period of 4 years since 2008 when he served as Chairman of the Central Transformer Association, he has been leading the only organization in the transformer industry for 12 years. From the beginning of the Transformer Business Association, which was born at a critical moment of the abolition of the group contract, he has been exercising leadership on the front lines. Chairman Choi said, “Despite my many shortcomings, I would like to thank the members who supported me this time as well,” and added, “I will faithfully carry out my important duties as you have trusted me.” He also added, “The biggest concern of the union members is securing work and future food,” and “I will help the union members build a foundation for sustainable management.” Chairman Choi is reviewing several plans to open a new future for the transformer industry. First, it is to enter overseas markets through the formation of an export consortium. He said, “If the transformer union acts as a kind of export union by combining the power of companies with competitiveness on the global stage, it will be able to exert more influence in overseas markets,” and “We will pool our wisdom with companies to seek ways to develop overseas sales channels.” In addition, the union plans to promote a plan to establish a joint ordering, joint production, and joint sales system in the domestic civilian market. Chairman Choi emphasized, “If union members establish a joint purchasing and sales system in the civilian sector, like in the irrigation market, I believe it will help secure a stable source of income and strengthen competitiveness.” He pointed out that the transformer industry must adapt to changes in the times in order to prepare for the post-COVID-19 era. He said that if they stick to management that is satisfied with the existing market, they may be eliminated by changes in the paradigm. In this context, he believes that it is difficult to be immersed in the KEPCO unit price market. Chairman Choi pointed out that “only companies that create new added value by using the public enterprise supply market as a minimum foundation, a kind of seed money, will be able to survive in the era of transformation,” and “we should not settle for the narrow government-funded market, but should challenge a larger market.”
His belief is that more transformer export companies should be born and fostered than they are now. Chairman Choi said, “I feel rewarded that I have contributed to the stability of the public goods market called electric power equipment while serving as the chairman of the transformer association for over 12 years,” and “I will pool my wisdom together so that our union members can overcome the recession and open a new future, centering on the KEPCO market.” He also said, “Whether a company or a union, you can survive only when you flexibly break the frame and expand your thinking while keeping up with the times,” and pledged, “I will always study and innovate to become a union chairman who can lead all business processes.” Electric Times Reporter Song Se-jun 21ssj@electimes.com
