(4th Industrial Revolution) Elpowertech
Implementation of Smart Factory, Consulting on Innovation in Manufacturing and Logistics

“If we do not continuously explore new niche markets and overseas markets, we will inevitably be eliminated.” Elpowertech CEO Choi Seong-kyu (pictured) is a CEO who always emphasizes innovation, people, and investment in the future. The secret to Elpowertech’s growth as a leading company in the domestic transformer industry is also thanks to this management belief that has led to outstanding performance. Elpowertech, which has achieved sales of 20 billion won and exports of nearly 10 million dollars in just 15 years since its founding, is continuing to move forward without stopping. Elpowertech plans to make the new factory currently under construction in the Hwaseong Bio Valley Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province a smart factory. The new factory, with a land area of 16,000㎡ and a building area of 9,000㎡, is three times larger than the existing Hwaseong factory. The new factory will produce new items such as switchgears, as well as existing main products such as general-purpose transformers, dry-type transformers, and transformers for export.
In order to implement a smart factory, Elpowertech is receiving manufacturing innovation consulting from experts, focusing on manufacturing and logistics. CEO Choi said, “This is to proactively cope with the increasingly competitive environment and changes and to improve the manufacturing and management structure that can create results and achieve sustainable growth,” and added, “We will make a new leap forward by converting to a smart factory.”
Elpowertech plans to use the factory relocation as an opportunity to improve the overall management level and to promote step-by-step innovation activities from the perspective of optimizing business management. The first step is to improve productivity by 50%, optimize logistics, and establish basic on-site facilities through 3-Jung (genuine, quantitative, and correct location) and 5S (organization, arrangement, cleaning, cleanliness, and habituation). The second step is to improve process quality by 50% and eliminate waste. The third step is to enter the top tier through increased sales and implement optimized flow production. We also plan to standardize and systemize the product warehouse operation system and logistics work through the material warehouse layout, inventory reduction, and on-site material supply system. This year’s business is also going smoothly. With orders exceeding 10 billion won in the first quarter, the green light has been given to achieve this year’s total sales target of 50 billion won. Last year, Elpowertech selected switches as new items to strengthen its business portfolio. Through solid preparation, it successfully passed the KERI certification test for the 25.8kV eco load switch (for overhead/630A automatic, manual) and the 18kV lead wire attached distribution polymer lightning arrester, thereby obtaining qualifications to supply to KEPCO. The plan is to quickly and softly land the switch business and take a new leap forward. Elpowertech is currently investing approximately 15 billion won to build a new factory with a land area of 16,000㎡ and a building area of 9,000㎡ in the Biovalley Industrial Complex. Elpowertech’s new factory is three times the size of its existing Hwaseong factory. The new factory will produce new items such as switchgears, as well as existing main products such as general oil-immersed transformers, dry transformers, and export transformers. CEO Choi said, “We have completed the distribution line portfolio by acquiring the switchgears lineup,” and “We will continue to invest in professional manpower and advanced facilities in order to grow into a comprehensive heavy electric equipment company.”
