Elpowertech (CEO Choi Seong-kyu), a transformer manufacturing company, is entering the switch market in earnest. Choi Seong-kyu, CEO of Elpowertech, said on the 5th, “We have completed KEPCO qualification registration for the eco load switch and distribution polymer lightning arrester,” and “We will make a quick soft landing of the switch business and enable Elpowertech’s new leap forward.”
Elpowertech is a leading company in the transformer industry that has achieved a growth myth of 20 billion won in sales and close to 10 million dollars in exports in just 15 years since its establishment. The company selected switches as a new item to strengthen its business portfolio. Through solid preparation, we successfully passed the KERI certification test for the 25.8kV eco load switch (for overhead/630A automatic, manual) and the 18kV lead-wire attached polymer lightning arrester for distribution, thereby obtaining the qualification to supply to KEPCO. In relation to this, Elpowertech is currently investing approximately 15 billion won to build a new factory with a land area of 16,000㎡ and a building area of 9,000㎡ in the Biovalley Industrial Complex. Elpowertech’s new factory is three times the size of the existing Hwaseong factory. The new factory will produce new items such as switchgears, as well as existing main products such as general oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers, and transformers for export. CEO Choi, who is also the chairman of the Transformer Association, said, “If we do not continuously explore niche markets and overseas markets, we will inevitably be eliminated,” and added, “We will enter the switchgears market as a new player and complete our distribution line portfolio to leap forward as a comprehensive heavy electric equipment company.” He also said, “For a company, hardware is important, but software is more important. If the equipment is hard, then the soft is people,” and pledged, “We will continue to invest in human resources to make it a sustainable company.”
